Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately 100 years old. Modern craps developed from the 12th Century English game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for certain the ancestry of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard amid a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.
Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the English, the French relocated down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically.
